The 1851 census of England and Wales was the first to ask details such
as relationship to head of household, where born, and also to ask more
accurate ages. Many Family History Societies
and others have been working for many years to produce indexes of various
parts of the census. These indexes vary in area, detail and accuracy, but
we are trying to collect as many TARLING details as we can, arranged by
pre-1974 county. The table below may help to give an overview and links
to significant pages for the 1851 census of England & Wales, in alphabetical
order of county. Any counties not mentioned have not yet been examined,
we have tried to start with counties which show the largest numbers of
TARLING entries in the database for around that date.
