Lois Kenczka from Montana, descendant of Alfred Tarling
I've been tracing many branches of my family history for over 5 years - including the Polish side - and have about 2,900 names. However I have not long started using the internet so I have been delighted to find this new Tarling family history site where this Tarling page of mine is now being hosted.
Alfred
and Susie Tarling emigrated from the U.K. and Alfred was naturalized on
18 Oct 1884 in Ottawa, La Salle County, Illinois. On their death
certificates it says Alfred was born 12 Jan 1850 in England and his father
was Benjamin; and Susie was born 15 Nov 1849 in England and her maiden
name was Bath. And thanks to a cousin WillaDene Kraft I also know
the details from a family Bible of one of their children, which gave them
as Alfred Isaac Tarling born 12 Jan 1848 and Susannah Bath born 15 Nov
1850. Not a lot to go on really. I had no marriage or birth
certificates; but I did have a letter written in 1911 by a distant relative
who talks of going to various places in South Wales to visit family and
family graves and houses.

And now with help from the Tarling database I've found their marriage. On 2nd. May 1869 in the Parish Church of Bedwellty in Monmouthshire, Wales: Alfred Tarling, a bachelor age 21, a collier (father: Benjamin Tarling, a carpenter) married Susannah Bath, a spinster age 19 (father: Isaac Bath, a collier). Both lived in New Tredegar. These are the exact places mentioned in the letter written in 1911 by Susie's relative. |

Some
of my current Tarling items of interest:
Alfred
Tarling and Susannah Bath's descendants. I would
be delighted to hear from anyone related to any of the children of Alfred
Tarling and Susannah Bath. In particular I am looking for descendants
of:
|
Susannah Tarling (nee Bath), early 1900s. |
The
birth of Albert Tarling.
Well I'm told there
is no good match in the Tarling database for the birth of an Alfred Tarling
in England or Wales, from JQ 1847 to DQ 1850. So where to next? Well
I've been searching around for an Alfred Tarling, perhaps born 12 Jan 1848,
1849 or 1850 with a father Benjamin (this is everything I know about him
so far). To my delight I've found in Charlton Kings in the 1851
census in Gloucestershire an Alfred Tarling, age 2, born Charlton Kings,
and his father is Benjamin. However there is no corresponding birth of
an Alfred Tarling registered in the area around Charlton Kings in the 1848
to 1850 period, so I'm slightly perplexed. It also seems that none
of that Alfred's brothers and sisters births were registered...
And so in the Tarling
side of my family history the search to find the birth and family of the
right Alfred Tarling is now one of my major quests.
Is the Alfred Tarling of the marriage certificate towards the top of this page the same as the Alfred in the 1851 census above?
The coincidence of the fairly rare father's forename of Benjamin seems to indicate that these are the same families. There is only one other Benjamin in the area: a 20 year old, unmarried (and no Alfred there). I know there are a number of people tracing these Gloucestershire Tarlings so are there any descendants out there from this family living in Charlton Kings in 1851:
