Winter 2004/5: coming soon: an update on the William and Elizabeth (Easthall) Tarling family.... watch this space....
Judy
Kelley & Joyce Rorabaugh
We are cousins who share
a great-grandfather: Arthur Tarling. Judy is from South Portland,
Maine USA and Joyce is from Florida USA. Also sharing the same great-grandfather
is Deb Conley from Cape Elizabeth, Maine who has also been working on this
family history. And yet another great-grandchild is Jeff Tarling
from Portland, Maine.
We have been tracing
our family history and we were delighteda few years ago to find this new
Tarling family history site where this Tarling page of ours is now
being hosted.

Arthur Tarling married Naomi Elizabeth
Pollard in England and they emigrated with their three small children to
Montreal, Canada in 1879, via the ship above, see our page
on the SS Sardinian. Arthur and Naomi Elizabeth's children Arthur
John, George and William Frederick (later known as Wilfred) were born in
London, and then came Charles, Annie Elizabeth (died age 17 months), Walter,
Annie Elizabeth and Ernest Richard.

Arthur Tarling's parents were Frederick
Tarling and Anna Maria Woodward who married in St. James's Clerkenwell
in 1843. The photo on the left shows Frederick Tarling (1817-1875).
We believe that Frederick was baptised 21 Dec 1817 in St. Olaves, Southwark,
London and was a warehouseman. We would dearly like to find
Frederick Tarling in the 1841 census, hopefully with his family.
Frederick left a substantial estate (for 1875) and his widow benefitted.
Frederick (we believe) was the son of William Tarling (an appraiser of the Customs) and Elizabeth Eastall who married on 30 May 1799 in Southwark, London and had four sons: William, George, Charles and our Frederick. These details come from our research, and from the Tarling database and from R.C.R. Tarling. |

Some
of our current Tarling items of interest:
Arthur
Tarling's brothers and sisters. We would like to
get more details (b, m, d etc.) of the siblings of Arthur, being children
of Frederick Tarling and Anna Maria (nee Woodward) who married 20 March
1843 in Clerkenwell. We have them in the 1861 census and have tried
to match births from the Tarling indexes, but we would be delighted to
hear more - is there anyone out there related to any of the following:

Arthur
Tarling's brother who emigrated to Michigan. We
have been told that Arthur had a brother who emigrated to Michigan, but
we don't know who it was - possibly one of the boys above. Obviously
any children would have been Tarling, perhaps living in Michigan from the
1880s, and we'd like to hear from anyone related please.
We
would be delighted to hear from you with any comments Judy: jhkell@earthlink.net and Joyce: roraJoyce@aol.com
