Links and Thanks |

| I'm probably only here today thanks to Cats Protection, the oldest and largest cat charity in the UK, which is mainly a rescue organisation working through volunteers. Their web site has a lot of good advice and serious content, but my favourite is their kittens funny photos pages. | ![]() |

| My local chapter is the Croydon CP who have their own excellent site "Our branch is supported by unpaid volunteers who devote themselves to the welfare of cats and kittens who find themselves homeless and helpless. (The cats not the volunteers )." They have been going for 27 years and last year rescued 830 cats; their web site is kept up to date with lots of local details and is well worth a visit. | ||||

| Other cat organisation links include the Feline Advisory Bureau with information for owners, breeders and vets as well as hints on finding a good cattery; an excellent site of The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (unfortunately they include dogs, mice and birds!) and The Cats Voice information exchange (including suggestions for cat names). | ||||

The Travels
of Sooty and Sweep
Not quite the same sort of Sooty as me but I have to admit he certainly gets around. And that includes to Iron Maiden concerts (ooohh nasty - you can tell whether they are playing or whether they've stopped; but if they are playing it's an awful racket - it would keep me awake). Sooty and Sweep's site is eclectic and original and they seem to have their humans Mike and Tam well trained. This Sooty doesn't seem to eat or sleep much (but I'll make up for him there). A recommended place to visit. |

| Sooty Cats: The
new SootyCat site - she was an RSPCA rescue cat who has emigrated from
Kent to Wales and has a great picture gallery.
Sooty Belfield is another Cats Protection League cat with her own page - from the Belfield home page click on Life and then on Sooty's Page. She tried to hide up the chimney when she went to her new home - hence her name. I wouldn't be so stupid: the first night in my new home I squeezed behind the pipes at the back of the sink unit in the utility room and got stuck and the humans had to dismantle the entire sink unit to get me out. |
| Other Sootys: There are birds named after me (ones that got away I guess), including the Sooty Tern, Sooty Shearwater and Lesser Sooty Owl. I hope I never get Sooty Mold (sounds very worrying) or Sooty Blotch. If you want to know what a Sooty Grunter is you'll have to follow the link. If you use a search engine on sooty and cat most of what you get seems to concern the problems of carbonation in exhaust catalytic converters (yawn...) |
| Other links: Please don't eat all the Whiskas in Jelly because I want to be sure there is some left. They even sponsor this petcat site (but you get zillions of cookies with it). Yes I know most petfood is expensive and contains a lot of dubious material (witness the problems with FSE), but this is the one I prefer at the moment although I'm open to persuasion with breast of organic chicken very lightly pan-fried in butter... |
