Sooty's Life Story. |
|
I was born in the summer of 1996,
a domestic short-haired black cat. I first lived in downtown Streatham
with a nice pair of humans who cared for me and fed me; but they split
up and moved away in the spring of 1997 and left me on my own. From the
age of about 9 months I had to fend for myself: eating from dustbins, catching
birds and mice and stealing food from other cats. I was attacked by a man
weilding a big flat thing and the lower part of my rear left leg hurt a
lot. I lost a lot of weight and condition, but found one local house where
I could steal the food put out for their old cat and the humans were very
kind and even fed me as well. I used to creep into their conservatory at
night and sleep there sometimes and they fed me up again and looked after
me, but they already had a cat of their own, and we didn't get on, so there
wasn't really room for me.

One day in November 1997 some people closed the door while I was inside and chased me and caught me and put me in a box and I was taken to the vet and it was all rather disturbing (and the details are best glossed over on a family page). This was all masterminded by the Croydon Cats Protection League - I was very distraught at the time, but it all turned out very well because the next thing I knew I was in a new house by Norwood Grove with new humans who kept me inside but fed me and cared for me. At first I was very afraid, the picture just above shows me still looking like a kitten. They tried to get me to sleep in the utility room but I decided the sofa in the kitchen was better and I settled in as you can see from the picture at the top of the page. After xmas they let me out in the day and I begun to explore the garden. I have two cat flaps to get back in and I was always fed and cared for and I began to settle down. |

So now I live a good life again. First I ate lots because
I'd been so hungry before, but now I know I'm always going to be fed I'm
more fussy about my food. I've been wormed, got stronger and have even
been practising my hunting. I've extended my territory to most of the garden
(when the fox is not down the bottom of the garden) and I've been exploring
further. Because I've seen a lot of cat life I have a few tips to pass
on so please feel free to have a look at my other pages from the links
below, all illustrated using images from a digital camera - I'm a real
technocat.
