Sooty's Guide to Food.Train your humans well - make sure they learn all the cute little tricks which get you the food. Don't be shy about using your saddest looks, most hungry noises and friendliest approaches - only a human being is stupid enough to believe that a 6kg cat that has slept all day in a warm comfy chair is really hungry and needs to be fed just because he's standing on his hind legs (see photo). |

SNACKS: Small birds and mice are my favourites, and these are also covered on my play page. Don't try frogs and especially not toads - they are only for play. Fish have less fur and feathers but it is very difficult for a cat to catch one (my enemy the heron is the usual culprit). However I have found that fish-food tastes good, so I always join in feeding the fish by pawing out some of the food - some goes into the pond and some onto the paving and I eat it - it tastes very fishy. My other favourite snack is Japanese rice crackers - I sometimes get some of them in the evenings. | ![]() |
| MEALS: Serious food comes in all types: Whiskas in Jelly with Tuna, Whiskas in Jelly with Turkey, Whiskas in Jelly with Chicken, Whiskas in Jelly with Lamb & Beef, Whiskas in Jelly with Rabbit, Whiskas in Jelly with Trout & Salmon, but as yet no Whiskas in Jelly with Feral Pigeon, Field Mouse & House Sparrow (which I would recommend as a great marketing idea for the connoisseur cat). I've tried other brands but my favourite is the great Whiskas in Jelly series. It doesn't take a lot to train your humans to get you what you want, just turning your nose up and walking away from anything else (and scrounging a meal next door) is usually enough. | ![]() |

Usually humans are reasonably smart and one look at an empty bowl and
a plaintive meow gets the message over to them. Hills Science Diet is OK
for the mornings, it makes a bit of a change and tastes interesting. Learning
to open the cupboard door where the food is kept is a good trick to help
hint if you have particularly cue-deaf humans.
So remember: always look, sound and act: hungry, hopeful and helpless... |
