Upper Norwood is watching you...
|
Our Neighbourhood Watch is in Upper Norwood - the prow of the first ridge of Glacial Gravel south of the London Clay bowl. The 85m contour goes through the middle of our watch, giving some people stunning views, especially over London to the north and parts of the Thames Valley to the west. One of our local residents, Mrs. Vallotton who has the best views over London kindly invited us up on a bitterly cold but fairly clear November day to take a look around, and this page shows some of the results. |

Technical notes Equipment: Sony Mavica FD7 digital still camera (with the equivalent of a 40 to 400mm zoom lens on a 35mm camera, but note that the clearness of the air and not the focal length of your lens is the main problem); Velbon Tripod; Minolta Binoculars; Warm underwear. Height above sea level: 104.8m. Location: latitude 51:25:24N longitude 00:06:43W, O.S. grid reference 531267, 171143. Temperature of fingers: a few degrees above freezing.
Thanks again to Mrs.
Vallotton who kindly invited us and provided us the guided tour of the
horizon across London. Also thanks are due to P.C. Roland Rattray
from Gipsy Hill Police Station for the introduction (and our support to
him in clearing the adjacent area of cars illegally for sale and blocking
the road).
