1] Birth of
Maria Clementia Smalle. When: in her marriage certificate on 18 Apr
1856 she said she was 24, which would mean she was born between 19 Apr
1831 and 18 Apr 1832, but Ben de Smit said he thought she was born 4 May
1830. Where: agreement on IJzendijke. In her marriage
certificate she says her parents were Johannes ?Franciscus? Smalle
and Isabella de Velaire, both deceased, so the fact that they were not
alive to correct her may have allowed some confusion about her exact place
or date of birth perhaps. It also seems that she may not have produced
her birth certificate at the marriage, but said she was born 4 May 1831.
However there is no Smalle at all (so no siblings either) in the indexes
of IJzendijke geboorten 1827 to 1842, and nothing to match her in the register
between April 1830 and May 1832. If she was born before 1827 she
would have been at least 30 at the marriage, and if she was born after
1842 she would be under 16, so it seems more likely that I'm not looking
in the right place. At the time of the marriage she was living in
Biervliet, could try there perhaps? Smalle seems a rare name, the only
others I've seen were emigrating from Aardenburg. Her death certificate
also says she was born in IJzendijke, daughter of Franciscus Smalle and
(looks like) Joabella de Vilaize, and if she was 77 at death she would
have been born between 3rd. March 1831 and 2nd. March 1832.
