2 Jacobus van der Sande, oud twee en vijftig jaren, van beroep Werkman, beiden vom der vrouw
3 Hendricus Leonardus van der Weijde oud negen endertig jaren, van beroep Sloepreeijar en,
4 Johannes Jacobus Parras, oud zes en dertig jaren, van beroep Koopman, beiden zwager van de Vrouw, allen wondende te Vlissingen, getuigen hen deze door de belanghebbend en gekezen,

    Today, the twenty-first of the month of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy three, appeared before me, legal official of the registration service of the municipality of Vlissingen, Province of Zeeland, in public inside the town hall, Leendert Schmelzer, aged twenty-three years, born in Vlissingen occupation seaman, residing in Vlissingen, in status unmarried, of full age, son of Johannes Wilhelmus Schmelzer of whom the place of residence and whether or not he is alive is not known, and of Joanna Abeele, deceased in Vlissingen, on the one hand;
and Frederika Barendina Brandenburg, aged eighteen years, born in Vlissingen, occupation none, residing in Vlissingen, in status unmarried, under full age, daughter of Frederick Brandenburg, occupation seaman and of Catharina van der Linden, occupation none, both residing in Vlissingen, on the other hand;
who have asked me to proceed with the solemnization of their intended marriage.

Thereupon, after I have taken notice of:
1. their birth deeds
2. the proof of fulfilment of his National Service for the groom
3. the proclamation made to the district judge of Vlissingen on the twenty-sixth of April eighteen hundred and seventy-two, establishing the absence of the father of the groom, and that it is not known of him whether or not he is living and thereby the impossibility exists for him to consent to this marriage to take place, or to be able to produce his death certificate.
4. the death certificate of the mother of the groom
5. the verbal agreement of consent to this marriage from the parents of the bride
6. the proclamations of this marriage have taken place, in this municipality on Sundays the fifteenth and twenty-second of December eighteen hundred and seventy two, without opposition.

all which documents have been handed over to me, to be attached to the copy of the marriage register, that is destined to be transported to the Secretariat of the District Court. In accordance to their request, and after that the future spouses each separately had declared before me, and in the presence of the witnesses as named hereunder, that they accept each other as spouse, and that they will faithfully fulfil all duties which are connected by law with marriage, it has now been declared by me in the name of the law that:

Leendert Schmelzer and Frederika Barendina Brandenburg

are joined in marriage to each other.

From which today this declaration is drawn up by me and written into both copies of the marriage Register of this town in the presence of:
1. Jacob Kegge age fifty three years, occupation none
2. Jacobus van der Sande, age fifty-two years, by occupation a workman, both with the bride
3. Hendricus Leonardus van der Weijde age thirty-nine years, by occupation a sloop rider [sloop sailor presumably] and,
4. Johannes Jacobus Parras, age thirty-six years, by occupation a trader [literally merchant] both brothers-in-law of the bride, all living in Vlissingen, they witness this for the party concerned and ?? [something - looks like gekezen]
And having done this [translation of the preceeding is unclear to me] and read it out, the first and the two last witnesses to this declaration, along with me, all signed;  the spouses, the parents of the bride and the second witness having declared they cannot sign as they have not learnt to write.
