Today, the twelfth day of the month of May in the year eighteen hundred and twenty-three, in the morning at nine o'clock appeared before me Jacobus Protovis Schoul, Legal Official to the [something] of the Registration Service of the municipality of Hoofdplaat, in the District of Sluis, in the Province of Zeeland, Pieter Jacobus de Smit aged thirty years, by occupation a day labourer, residing in this municipality who [something like declared to me]  a child of the male gender was born on the eleventh of the month of May in the year eighteen hundered and twenty-three, in Hoofdplaat, at ten o'clock in the morning in ward number [no ward number - possibly Hoofdplaat was too small to warrant being split into wards]  ; son of the declarant and of Rosalia Vorgunre his [house] wife.

which declaration was written in the presence of Jacobus Bedet, aged fourty-two years, by occupation an inn keeper, residing in this municipality, and by Indoonr der Keijser, aged fifty-five years, by occupation a shopkeeper, residing in [something] this municipality, asked to be witnesses hereto.
