Reported age 77 hence born between 03 Mar 1831 and 02 Mar 1832 |
NOTES It seems that she did not produce her birth certificate at the
marriage, but declared that she was born 4 May 1831. Her father died when
she was about 3 and her mother when she was 9 (what happened - where did
she go?); so perhaps by the time she came to marry she was not sure exactly
when or where she was born. However she was not registered as born
in IJzendijke between Apr 1830 and May 1832 - I have even seen the original
register of births for 1831, and there is no entry that could possibly
be her around early May 1831. There is no entry in the index that
looks as if it could be her between 1827 and 1842! I've checked in Biervliet
and she was not born there between 1829 and 1833, I looked at the entries
in Biervliet for May 1831 and there is no entry that could be her.
What are the chances that her birth was not registered?
All her siblings that I know of are registered (some under the spelling
Smaele, but in every search I have always included Smaele - and other similar
variations).
