Well Titian certainly knows how to jump, especially when ridden by Kathleen. Chester is a sweet pnoy, on his way to collecting another clear round rosette.

Riding again

Porky: first prize in the falling off competition at Show Day 1998
Falling off. This is a strange game usually played in the falling off field by the side of the indoor school. On the day of the show only one horse was successful and that was Porky. And what a winner: a couple of riders fell off Porky (who is shown in the middle above looking slightly bashful after his great success at the game). The main elements of the game seem to be riding around and over the fences until you fall off, then laughing while Porky eats some grass and then getting back on and doing it again - this is all as illustrated above, by two real experts.

Almost all of the horses and ponies took part in the Show Day, most of them in many events. There was dressage, show-jumping, an accumulator (jumping fences within a strict time limit, score the points marked on the fence, no more than 3 jumps over any one fence), a clear round competition (no time limit), 2 grades of cross country courses, a childrens and ponies gymkhana and a pairs cross country race. Not included here (due mainly to lack of space and good photos) are Ben, Bobbie, Marlin (resting with a hurt leg but now better), and a number of the ponies like Pepe and Domino. Daisy is looking a bit grumpy above because she was not playing at that stage. All the horses rest on Thursday, but there's no rest for us mousers.
Pairs

Pairs cross country race

Left: the pairs race where a team of two go round the cross country course and are timed from the moment the first one jumps the first fence until the last one jumps the last fence. This team have colour co-ordinated clothing but contrasting colour mounts.

Right: we cats sharpen our claws on the woodwork and sometimes bits of claw flake off. Horses seem to have metal claws and sometimes their entire claws fall off - we have a collection here by the tack room.
